My story starts when I was 12 years old – hammering out programs from COMPUTE magazine on the family Commodore64 with my older brother in the basement. . .scarfing down nachos and trying things until they worked – we really had a blast! Later on, I had the ‘Chuck Bartowski’ experience working in a major Electronics retailer, supporting and selling computer systems – which was the bridge to land me my first really big gig at Ticketmaster as a Network Tech.
My journey since then has taken me to so many amazing amazing places – I’ve traveled two miles underground to repair Network switches in a Gold Mine. I’ve been honored to help secure Networks inside an Electric Powerplant in New Mexico. I’ve traveled to Louisiana in the wake of Katrina to ensure IP phone systems were working. I have been exposed to giant machines in Manufacturing plants and engaged in Operational Technology Security Practices needed to Protect them. I have helped reduce risk in large Financial firms through deploying innovative Cyber Security detection technologies.
I presently work with some of the finest and most intelligent Information Security practitioners in the industry. I recognize it is through the kindness and good will of others that I get to be where I am today – I’ve had the privilege of learning from some of the BEST people in the Industry, Dr. Eric Cole, Dr. Ralph Langner, Doug Burks, Bruce Schneier, Frank Edwards, Dave Shackleford and Tim Hall and so many others, my peers and mentors along the way who helped me grow into who I am!
Why I do what I do: I believe in protecting humankind through offering exceptional specialized value as an experienced Security Professional. I believe in never-ending learning. I am a perpetual student of leading edge Security Practices, Security Technologies, Security Architecture, Networking Technologies, Cloud and all things Linux. I believe in being the best I can be. I uphold high moral and ethical practice in both my personal and professional life. I believe that freely sharing my knowledge and experience in Information Security is one of the best things I can do to help others in the world.

In 2006, I wrote a self-help/business book called ‘LayoffShield’ on how to keep your job if your company is laying people off. Although it is not an InfoSecurity book; it is a CAREER book; and the principles laid down in it are solid + they still apply today, regardless of your profession. I believe in giving back to the world, so the entire book is free for you if you want.
